CTS Faculty Responds to Supreme Court Ruling on Defense of Marriage

On Wednesday, June 26, 2013, the Supreme Court ruled to allow federal benefits for legally married homosexual couples and paved the way for allowing same-sex marriages in California by ruling that Proposition 8, the 2008 California initiative that defines marriage as the union of a man and a woman, is unconstitutional. How should Christians respond to this issue? Dr. Peter Scaer, associate professor of Exegetical Theology at Concordia Theological Seminary, Fort Wayne, Ind., offers a response.

God’s Gift of Marriage: Speaking the Truth in Love

We are greatly saddened to hear that the Supreme Court, in a 5-4 decision, has struck down the Defense of Marriage Act (DOMA). This is yet another example of our nation’s moral blindness and our fallen culture. The days ahead look to be difficult, and we must again dedicate ourselves to God’s Word and to God’s will, trusting always in the mercy and forgiveness of our Lord Jesus Christ. (Read more)
