Entry Level Competency Exams

Welcome to the Concordia Theological Seminary site for the Entry Level Competency Exams (ELCE).

Depending upon the program for which you have applied, there are up to five exams that make up the ELCE requirements: Old Testament, New Testament, Christian Doctrine, Hebrew and Greek. Please review Prepare for the Exams for further information and details about requirements, requesting and study resources for the exam.

Each exam has 100 questions and you will be given 75 minutes to complete each exam. The exam questions were developed by professors from the Concordia University System and both seminaries. These exams are used by the seminary to show you have a basic understanding of each content area and are well prepared to continue your studies at the graduate level.

At the end of the exam, you will be given your score. This score will also be automatically forwarded to the Registrar's Office of Concordia Theological Seminary, Fort Wayne.

God’s richest blessings as you take these exams and prepare to begin your studies at Concordia Theological Seminary.
